To support small businesses throughout Stafford County, the Stafford County Economic Development Authority (EDA) offers a suite of financial programs, including microloans to support growth opportunities and the immediate needs of new and existing businesses; gap financing for commercial real estate development, equipment, inventory, and work capital; and funding for new and innovating technology-based businesses. The Stafford County EDA also provides financial support for nonprofit, community-based organizations whose efforts emphasize job creation and economic and community growth.

Through a semester-long program designed to engage and inspire entrepreneurship, StartUpUMW teaches students how to start and run a business. Students learn from experienced, successful entrepreneurs and professionals, and in the process gain a greater understanding of what it takes—and what it means—to be successful business owners.
InvestFXBG is a loan program funded and administered by the Fredericksburg Economic Development Authority for small and growing businesses in the City of Fredericksburg. The mission of InvestFXBG is to provide capital for business, community, and economic development with the goal of creating jobs, encouraging private investment, and recirculating community capital through prudent lending practices within the City of Fredericksburg.

Supporting businesses in regions where the unemployment rate is 20% higher than the national average, helping to reduce joblessness and boost local economies.
Manufacturing
Supporting manufacturers in acquiring real estate and other major fixed assets to help automate, upgrade, and create efficiencies to support their growth and help create or retain jobs.
Reducing energy consumption
Supporting businesses that are reducing existing energy consumption by at least 10%. In cases of new businesses, new construction or replacement/upgrade of certain equipment, the renewable energy sources must generate at least 15% of the energy used at the building.
